A 22-year-old Plant City man was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal car crash from February that left one dead, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Toxicology tests revealed that Hector Estrella Jr. had a blood alcohol level of 0.128 when he drove off the roadway on Feb. 22 at 55 mph, striking a culvert and overturning his 2001 Toyota, deputies said.
Estrella was arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter. Florida law presumes a driver impaired with a BAC of 0.08 or greater.
The crash, which happened on County Road 39 just south of Old Welcome Road in Lithia, killed his passenger, Sonia E. Roldan, 22 of Plant City.
Roldan was sleeping in the back seat without a seat belt while Estrella drove, authorities said. When the Toyota crashed into the culvert at 8:17 p.m, she was flung from the vehicle.
Estrella was released from the county jail on Friday after posting $7,500 bail.
