ST. PETERSBURG — A 25-year-old Port Charlotte woman was killed Sunday night when she was thrown from the back of a motorcycle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Samira Silva was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Giovanni Castro, 35, of North Port, around 7:30 p.m. They were on southbound I-275 near 54th Avenue S in the inside lane, when the Suzuki bike veered onto the southeast shoulder and struck the guardrail. The bike rolled down the embankment and struck several trees, FHP said. Silva and Castro were both wearing helmets. Silva died at the scene. Castro was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries.
