Sheriff's deputy, two others, injured in Largo crash

LARGO — A Pinellas County sheriff's deputy was injured Tuesday afternoon when his agency vehicle was struck by a pickup truck as he was attempting to pull someone over.

Cpl. Peter Doyle, a nine-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office, was traveling west on Roosevelt Boulevard near Dodge Street around 2:30 p.m. when he attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the other vehicle made a left turn on to Dodge Street and Doyle followed in his marked Chevy Tahoe, traveling into the path of the pickup.

Doyle was taken to a local hospital, as were the driver of the GMC truck, Eddie Rumph, 71, and a passenger, Callie Rumph, 67, both of Largo. Each had injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The crash was still under investigation.
