ST. PETERSBURG — A 60-year-old construction worker fell to his death Thursday morning while working on a catwalk inside an Eckerd College auditorium, police said.
Initial police reports indicate that Terry Lynn Flack of Brooksville, employed by electrical contractor Universal Control, was working on scaffolding on a catwalk inside the Bininger Performing Arts Building, 4200 54th Ave. S.
Rescue officials estimated he fell between 30 and 40 feet. The company was working on an air conditioning system. Police said it wasn't clear what caused the fall or whether the worker had suffered a medical episode that may have contributed to the fall.
Paramedics, who arrived just before 9 a.m., found the man on the floor and put him on advanced life support. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead.
No classes were in session inside the auditorium at the time, according to Valerie Gliem, a college spokeswoman. Two classes originally scheduled there were relocated for the work, she said.
