A motorist was arrested Wednesday on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident after Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said he struck and killed a pedestrian crossing Orient Road earlier this week.
Deputies said the driver, Gregory Allen Moore, 53, hit Nicholas Carson Southerland, 67, with his Ford F-150 pickup as Southerland was walking east across Orient Road near Waycross Avenue around 10:10 p.m. Monday.
Moore then fled the area and headed north, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Moore admitted that he was the driver involved. A 2-foot piece of the pickup's bug deflector was left behind at the scene from the front of the truck's hood.
Moore was booked into Hillsborough County jail Wednesday around 5:20 p.m. and was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
