BROOKSVILLE — A 60-year-old Tarpon Springs bicyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning when he was sideswiped by a truck on Hayman Road, authorities said.

Gerard R. Rutigliano was riding near Culbreath Road when he was hit by a 1998 Dodge Ram traveling in the same direction, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report released Thursday.

Rutigliano was thrown from his bike and landed on the grass shoulder, troopers said. He was flown to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, where he remained in guarded condition Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.

The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Anibal Triano of Masaryktown, was not injured.

Glare was cited as a possible factor in the collision, which happened as the sun was rising about 7:30 a.m., but troopers gave Triano a citation for failing to yield the right of way, according to the report.
