BRANDON — Two teenagers were hospitalized Sunday morning after the car they were in hit a guardrail that tore through the car and impaled the front seat passenger, according to authorities.

At about 2:30 a.m., Bradley Penny, 16, was driving a 1999 Honda Accord at 45 mph west on Bloomingdale Avenue, said Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon.

For unknown reasons, Penny, of Brandon, drove off the road and hit a guardrail west of Bell Shoals Road. The rail pierced the front seat passenger, 15-year-old Carter Price, of Brandon, McKinnon said.

The teens were taken to local hospitals with unknown conditions.
