Arson suspected in fire that destroyed two cars at West Tampa home

TAMPA -- Authorities are investigating a potential arson that destroyed two vehicles parked in a driveway early Monday morning, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

Firefighters say the fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. at a residence off of W Lemon Street in West Tampa. An incident report from Tampa Fire Rescue says the fire began shorty after an unknown man was seen walking to the driveway with a container in hand.

The report says the man then poured an ignitable liquid onto both vehicles' exterior and left a trail on the ground, which he ignited.

Both vehicles became engulfed in flames, firefighters said, and were both total losses.

The fire then spread to the home, causing $1,200 worth of damage before it was able to be put out, firefighters said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters ask that anyone with information to contact them at (813) 274-7000 or submit an anonymous tip.
