RUSKIN — A 1-year-old toddler died Tuesday after being struck by a neighbor who had just dropped the boy off at his home, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The incident took place shortly after at 2 p.m. at a mobile home park along 27th Street SE, deputies said. The child was playing with the family dog in the front yard, deputies said, as the neighbor started to drive off and head to her home next door.

Instead, the neighbor ended up striking the boy.

The child was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital South in Riverview, where he was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m.

Investigators have deemed the boy's death an accident, according to the Sheriff's Office. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday, the agency said.

The Sheriff's Office did not release the name or address of the boy or his family.
