Clearwater city employee found dead at softball complex

CLEARWATER — A Clearwater city employee who had been working with the electrical system at a softball complex died on the job Wednesday.

At 3:08 p.m., a passerby at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex called 911 after finding a man on the ground, unresponsive.

When fire and rescue employees responded, the man was in cardiac arrest.

Eric Herman, in his 60s, was pronounced dead at Mease Countryside Hospital at 3:40 p.m.

An electrician in the city building department, Herman had been working "in and around the lights and the electrical system for the softball fields," the city said in a news release.

Because there were no witnesses, Herman's cause of death is unknown, the city said.

City police, fire and risk management officials are investigating.
