19-year-old man shot while riding bicycle in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A 19-year-old man was shot Friday while riding his bicycle on Highland Street, police said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was riding south on Highland near Newtown Avenue S about 4:45 p.m. when he was shot at several times, according to St. Petersburg police. One round struck him in the upper torso. A passer-by took the man to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was uncooperative with investigating officers, police said. He was undergoing surgery and is expected to survive.

Detectives were still working Friday evening to identify a suspect. No other details were immediately released.
