At around 7 a.m. trooper William Hale was driving his patrol vehicle south in the outside lane of I-75. When Hale came to a stop for other traffic, a 2016 Ford SUV, driven by Billy Lee Floyd, struck Hale from behind, troopers said.

Floyd, of Land O'Lakes, was impaired and arrested, troopers said.

Hale suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
