RUSKIN — Authorities are looking for a habitual traffic offender they say caused a crash that seriously injured a 13-year-old, then left.
Lee Lyman Bassett, 30, was driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck on U.S. 41 north of Gulf City Drive late Friday when he rear-ended an 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer with four people inside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Chevrolet was forced off the roadway and flipped over, troopers said. Bassett stopped his car, but abandoned it and ran away.
FHP is still looking for Bassett, who is from North Port.
Everyone in the Trailblazer suffered at least minor injuries, but the 13-year-old had to be taken by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital. He was listed in serious condition.
