Four people linked to Tampa carjacking captured hours later

TAMPA — It took officers just 27 minutes Friday night to capture four people who they said stole a car from its owner.

The incident started outside the Ybor Coffee Shop at 5:45 a.m. A group approached the driver as he sat in his 2010 Toyota Corolla. They struck the victim in the head with a weapon, police said, took his cash and drove off in his vehicle.

That night, officers said they spotted the stolen Corolla at about 8:15 p.m. near 46th Street and 26th Avenue, according to Tampa police.

Four people in the compact sedan drove to the 3600 block of Garrison Street, where police said they abandoned the car and ran.

Using a helicopter and police dogs, officers said they tracked down all four by 8:42 p.m. and take them into custody,.

The identities of the four people who were arrested was not released Friday, nor the charges they face.
