Hillsborough seventh-grader arrested for bringing gun to middle school

A Hillsborough County seventh-grader was arrested Monday on a charge of having a gun at school.

School resource deputies arrested the boy, 14, at Webb Middle School in Town 'N Country after Tampa police received a tip during the weekend that someone with his first name was selling drugs on campus and was known to carry a gun.

School administrators conducted a search of the boy's property and found an unloaded .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol and two bullets in his backpack, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

The boy, who is not being named by the Tampa Bay Times because of his age, faces a felony charge of having a gun on school grounds and a misdemeanor charge of possessing a gun as a minor.
