LARGO ó Police are searching for a man and a woman wanted in a botched armed kidnapping that took place Wednesday.
A third man is in custody while the target of the apparent kidnapping plot was shot in the head while trying to escape, according to Largo police. He is expected to survive.
Rhionna Leann Anderson, 24, and Derrick Heckman, 30, are being sought on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, police said.
The target of what police described as a "drug-related robbery" was Timothy James Nichols, 28. The group kidnapped Nichols at gunpoint, police said, bound his hands and feet with duct tape and forced him into the back of a rented U-Haul truck.
The group heard Nichols free himself, police said, and opened the rear door. Thatís when Nichols jumped out of the truck and ran, police said.
Anderson opened fire with a semiautomatic handgun, striking Nichols in the head. The gunshots were reported at 11:12 a.m. at 260 Third St. NW.
Anderson and Heckman drove off in the U-Haul, which police said was found abandoned at Largo Mall, 10500 Ulmerton Road.
Officers captured the third person involved in the kidnapping attempt into custody but did not release his name.
Nichols was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for emergency medical treatment and was expected to survive, police said.
Anderson and Heckman are considered armed and dangerous and anyone who has information about their whereabouts should call 911 or alert Largo police at (727) 587-6730.
