Minivan eludes Tampa police after firing at, and chasing, another vehicle

Published Apr. 2, 2018

TAMPA — Police are searching for whoever was in a gold Kia Sedona minivan chasing after another vehicle and firing gunshots at it early Monday morning.

Officers were patrolling the 3700 block of W Columbus Drive around 12:30 a.m., according to Tampa police, when they saw someone inside the minivan firing several shots while pursuing a small gray sedan.

Police tried to pull the minivan over, which instead fled the area, starting a high-speed pursuit. The minivan "began to drive recklessly and was able to elude the pursuing officers," police said.

A short time later, police said the Kia was found abandoned in the 2900 block of W Ivy Street with two firearms inside.

The gray sedan that it chased has yet to be located, police said, and officers do not believe anyone was injured.

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477, report anonymously at the Crime Stoppers website or send a mobile tip using the P3 Tips app.
