Pinellas deputies: Largo daycare operator struck 2-year-old

LARGO — A 59-year-old daycare owner was arrested Thursday on allegations that she struck a 2-year-old toddler she was supposed to be caring for, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Now her day care facility, Itsy Bitsy Kids World Daycare, has been shut down amidst a continuing investigation.

Colleen Williams Days was arrested on a charge of child abuse. Her day care is located at 1545 Oak St.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the mother of the 2-year-old boy noticed that after she picked up her son from the daycare on Oct. 3 that he had suffered large red marks on his left and right thighs. When the mother asked the daycare about the injuries, deputies said, she was told that the child "fell." She was given no other information about her son.

Days was brought in for questioning on Thursday. Deputies said that Day admitted she "struck the victim several times with his own shoes, causing the injuries to both his legs." The day care operator said she struck the toddler, according to the Sheriff's Office, because he would not put his shoes on.

Days was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where she was freed Thursday evening after posting $5,000 bail.
