Police investigating fatal shooting of St. Petersburg woman

ST. PETERSBURG — An altercation led to the fatal shooting of a woman early Thursday morning in the Midtown area, according to St. Petersburg police.

Neighbors reported hearing an altercation, and then a gunshot, at about 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of 15th Avenue S,

When officers arrived they said they found a woman — later identified as Christina Veronica Rush, 27 — shot and wounded in a backyard.

The officers performed CPR on Rush, who was then rushed to a local hospital. She later died there.

Investigators believe Rush her assailant, police said. The investigation is continuing.

Rush is the fourth person who fatally shot in the area in the past two weeks, police said.
