Police warn of man on bicycle groping women in South Tampa

TAMPA — Police are warning South Tampa residents to be on the lookout for a man on a bicycle who has groped two women.

The first incident happened about 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 near the corner of MacDill and Watrous avenues, according to the Tampa Police Department. The woman didn't report the incident until Saturday, after she saw a social media post from another woman who was groped about 2:30 p.m. that day in the area of Watrous and Sunset Drive. The second victim immediately reported the incident to police.

In both cases, the man groped the women as he rode past them on a dark-colored mountain bike, police said.

Investigators described the man as slender, about 35 to 40 years old and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

Detectives were working to identify the suspect and urged any other victims to immediately report the incident.

"Police need to know as soon as these crimes take place because it increases our chances of catching the suspect," department spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said in an email. "Ultimately, we want to identify and arrest this suspect as quickly as possible so that we can prevent more women from being victimized."
