TAMPA — A 7th grade student at Webb Middle School was arrested Monday after school administrators discovered a pistol and ammunition in his backpack.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the 14-year-old boy had carried an empty Diamondback Arms .380 semi-automatic pistol and two live bullets around the school campus, located at 6035 Hanley Road in the Town 'n Country area. Webb's school resource deputies arrested the boy and transported him to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center on a felony charge of possession of a firearm on school property and a misdemeanor charge of minor in possession of a firearm.
The arrest was the result of an anonymous tip the Tampa Police Department received over the weekend and sent to the Sheriff's Office. The tipster said the boy was selling drugs on school property and was known to carry a gun.
