SPRING HILL — More than a year after deputies found a 74-year-old woman dead in a Spring Hill home, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said her son has been charged in connection with her death.

Albert Henry Nickerson, 50, faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated abuse of the elderly, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was arrested Friday at his home at 2344 Covington Ave., deputies said, where his mother Beverly Nickerson was found dead in September 2016.

According to an arrest warrant, Nickerson is accused of inflicting multiple blunt force injuries on his mother and giving her excessive amounts of prescribed medications, including morphine, which caused her death.

When arrested, Nickerson told deputies "the warrant took long enough," according to an arrest report.

Nickerson was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
