Springstead High student accused of making bomb threats against Central High

Published Apr. 17, 2018

A Springstead High School student was arrested Monday night after he wrote online that he wanted to set off an explosive at Central High School, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The student, 16, faces a charge of intimidation and was currently being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala.

He admitted to making the threat and told deputies it was a joke, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Tipsters told deputies they were playing an online trivia game called "Game Show" when a player posted a comment that read, "I am going to set off an explosive at Central High School, spring hill florida tomorrow [sic]."

Deputies said they found nothing out of the ordinary during searches of the student's residence and the school. The Tampa Bay Times is withholding the name of the student because of his age.
