ST. PETERSBURG — An argument between two groups inside a club spilled outside into the parking lot of the Sugar Room early Monday morning, according to St. Petersburg police.

One group then aimed gunfire at the other group, police said.

One man was fatally shot and another was wounded. Now police are searching for whoever shot them.

The incident took place outside the club at 1239 Fourth St. S. at about 1:30 a.m.

Jermaine A. Long, 33, was identified as the man who was killed. Records show he was released from prison on March 20 — just 13 days before his death.

The other man suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said, but his identity was not made public.

St. Petersburg police have not released any other information about the incident, including whether they have identified any of the shooters.

In 2007, state records show a Pinellas-Pasco judge sentenced Long to spend 10 years in prison on drug charges such as trafficking cocaine and the possession and sale of heroin.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at (727) 893-7780 or text "SPPD" and an anonymous tip to TIP-411.
