TAMPA — Police arrested a 17-year-old boy after he fired several shots into Rowlett Park on Sunday, authorities said.
Officers already patrolling the area because of a large party at the park, 2401 E Yukon Street, heard gunshots about 3:30 p.m., according to Tampa police. Two officers saw the teen, whose name was not released, firing into the heavily wooded park from behind a tree. The teen tried to discard the gun as he rode out of the park on a bicycle, police said. He was arrested moments later.
Though there families in the park, there were no victims as a result of the teen's actions, police said. He was charged with discharging a firearm in public, illegally possessing a firearm as a minor, resisting arrest and violating probation.
