SPRING HILL — A Brooksville man was taken into custody Monday, accused of holding up a bank, Hernando County sheriff's officials said.
Brendan Timothy Evans, 28, was charged with robbery after he entered the SunTrust Bank at 13137 Cortez Blvd. and demanded money, according to deputies. He left the bank on a bicycle, which authorities believe was also stolen. It was unclear how much money he got from the bank.
After Evans left, bank personnel turned over surveillance footage to investigators, who saw a man dressed in black with a black backpack, authorities said. Technicians captured still shots from the video and sent them to Hernando deputies, one of whom recognized Evans.
A sheriff's helicopter and police dog unit tracked Evans to WestBridge, a treatment center west of Brooksville, where he was arrested a short time later.
Evans was being held Monday in the Hernando County Detention Center in lieu of $250,000 bail.
