BROOKSVILLE — Someone shot at two men as they were driving in south Brooksville late Tuesday night, police say.

A 21-year-old Tampa man was driving a 2005 Dodge Avenger south on Shayne Street about 11 p.m. when he noticed a green laser pointed at the car and then heard gunshots, Brooksville Police Chief George Turner said. The driver and an 18-year-old male passenger were not injured. The men did not call for help, but a resident called police after hearing the shots, and officers located the car.

Investigators found a bullet mark in the roof and a spent .40-caliber shell casing at the scene. Detectives do not believe the shooting was random and suspect the people involved know each other, Turner said.

He said detectives aren't sure if the shooting is related to an incident Monday night, when someone fired several rounds into a car parked at 809 Shayne St., two house north of where Tuesday's shooting occurred.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the Brooksville Police Department at (352) 540-3800.
