Deputies: Argument over Jerry Springer Show leads to assault charges for one inmate


A man already incarcerated and accused of forcing minors into prostitution picked up an additional battery charge when he fought with another inmate about watching The Jerry Springer Show, according to an arrest report.

Deputies said Antron Laquay Smith, 32, insisted on watching Jerry Springer about 6 p.m. July 28. Other detainees were watching a movie, however, and the conflict turned physical when Smith slapped and pushed another inmate's head, according to the arrest report.

Smith was arrested on the battery charge Aug. 11.


Woman charged with selling stolen ammunition from her workplace

A Tarpon Springs woman stole thousands of dollars worth of ammunition from her employer and sold it out of the trunk of her car, according to an arrest report.

Andrea Lynn Powers, 38, faces a charge of grand theft. Her employer, who is not named in the report, told deputies someone tipped him off about Powers' stealing. He then realized $5,255.59 of ammunition was missing, according to the arrest report.

Authorities later recovered $1,155.64 of ammunition in Powers' car, officers said.

She was arrested Aug. 13.


Man charged with trying to steal security system from Walmart

A 29-year-old man tried to steal a home security system from a Walmart on U.S. 19, according to an arrest report.

Sean Alexander McCarthy of Clearwater was arrested Aug. 13. Officers said that McCarthy cut a zip tie that kept the $349 security camera system fixed to a shelf, removed an anti-shoplifting alarm from the packaging and walked out of the store at 23106 U.S. 19 N on July 25.

He was recorded on surveillance video, according to the arrest report.

He faces a charge of grand theft.
