A Dade City man was arrested after he admitted he poured scalding water on a 2-year-old, deputies said.
Jonathan Lee Howard, 26, was arrested Sunday after a 2-year-old, of whom he had custodial supervision, suffered second-degree burns on her body, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. The child was airlifted to a local hospital, where staff said the wound pattern across her body were consistent with a scalding from hot liquid.
Howard originally said she may have been burned by an exploding lighter while he slept, but later said he poured hot water on her, deputies said. He did not take her in until Sunday to receive medical care, a day after it happened.
Howard was booked into the Land O'Lakes Detention Center. He faces a charge of child neglect and is being held on $10,000 bail.
