CLEARWATER — Authorities are searching for two men they say battered and robbed a man in his hotel room early Thursday morning, Pinellas sheriff's deputies reported.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was staying in Room 215 at the Rodeway Inn Hotel at 28596 U.S. Highway 19, when at around 2:15 a.m. the men kicked in his door after trying to open it with a key, deputies said.

Once inside, deputies say the suspects battered the man and produced what appeared to be a handgun. They threatened him, then demanded money and his car keys and fled in the man's Chevrolet Equinox, deputies said.

The victim did not know his attackers, authorities said, and they have not determined why his room was targeted.

Both suspects are in their mid twenties to early thirties, deputies reported. One is described as a white male with a large build and shaved head, last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts and a black and white tennis shoes. The other suspect, a light-skinned black male with a large build, was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, jean shorts and a black baseball cap, deputies said.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information to call (727) 582-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
