Elderly St. Petersburg man beaten with his own walker in Walmart parking lot

Man robbed, beaten in Walmart parking lot

A man in his 60s was beaten with his own walker in a Walmart parking lot Friday afternoon, according to St. Petersburg police.

The 66-year-old man had been walking toward the store at 201 34th St. N when a man in his late 20s or early 30s approached, police said.

The younger man asked for the time of day. It was 1:04 p.m.

The younger man then put the older man in a choke hold, threw him to the pavement, punched him and, police said, even beat the older man with his own walker.

The younger man took the victim's wallet and other items, then ran to a blue Dodge Durango, police said. A witness reported that its license plate may begin with "GKA."

The black man, who was wearing dark clothing, was taller than 6 feet, according to police, and weighed about 190 to 210 pounds.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at (727) 893-7780.
