WEEKI WACHEE — Hernando sheriff's deputies said they found the body of a registered sex offender Tuesday who had disabled his ankle monitor and run away from home.
Investigators believe Dennis Cox, 50, committed suicide.
Cox, who was listed as a violent felony offender, disabled the monitor at 2:17 a.m. and left his home at 9375 Bearwalk Path in an unknown direction, deputies said. He did not take any of his four vehicles.
Deputies found his body around noon Tuesday not far from his house.
Authorities had been investigating Cox in connection to a Sunday "voyeurism case" at a retail store, sheriff's office spokesman Michael Terry said. During that investigation, Cox referenced committing suicide to detectives.
