Suspect in clerk's beating arrested
Winter Haven police said the suspect in the beating of an 80-year-old store clerk was arrested Saturday by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Perry L. Chance was arrested near Gainesville while driving the woman's 2009 Chevrolet Impala, police said. Police said Chance hit the woman Monday at Elonka's Fashions in Winter Haven. He took her to a back room, tied her up, gagged her and beat her, police said. Chance is accused of taking money from the cash register and stealing her purse and car, police said. Portions of the incident were captured by store surveillance cameras.
