Man injured in Clearwater motel shooting

CLEARWATER — A man was hospitalized Thursday night after being shot several times at a motel, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting happened at the America's Best Value Inn Motel at 28596 U.S. 19 in unincorporated Clearwater about 9:30 p.m.

According to the Sheriff's Office, an armed man, whom detectives have not identified, entered the victim's motel room and shot him several times before running away.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear life threatening. Deputies found a revolver near the scene.

Deputies said the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence, wording law enforcement often uses to indicate the shooter and victim knew each other and there does not appear to be a broader threat to public safety.

An investigation remained under way.
