Nearly two dozen arrested in Pinellas during overnight DUI checkpoint

CLEARWATER — Pinellas sheriff's deputies arrested 23 people on 30 charges during an overnight sobriety checkpoint, authorities said Saturday.

Nearly 1,800 cars passed through the checkpoint, which went from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at 29582 U.S. 19 N.

Deputies diverted 385 cars off the road, officials said.

Only one person was charged with DUI, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The rest were arrested on various charges, including drug possession and license violations.
