New Port Richey restaurant worker shoots attacker

NEW PORT RICHEY — A restaurant kitchen worker shot and injured a man who entered the business and began beating him Saturday, according to New Port Richey Police.

Two employees arrived at the Dulcet Restaurant & Lounge on Grand Boulevard in downtown New Port Richey about 10 a.m. to begin preparing food for the day, officers wrote in a news release. Shortly thereafter, Vince Edward Angelety, 29, of New Port Richey entered the restaurant and began battering one of the employees, who yelled for the other to call police.

The man who was getting beaten tried to leave, but Angelety followed and "began to reach in his pockets and then attempted to grab the employee," the news release said.

That's when the employee, who was not identified, drew a small-caliber handgun from his pocket and shot Angelety. When officers arrived, the employee was standing over Angelety, who lay on the ground. Information about Angelety's condition was not available Monday

Angelety, whom the restaurant employees did not know, was transported to a hospital and taken into custody on a charge of burglary with simple battery, police said.

The shooter cooperated with the investigation and provided investigators with a valid concealed carry permit. He will not face charges, police said.
