HOLIDAY — A Sunday school teacher was arrested Tuesday after Pasco sheriff's officials say he kissed and touched a young boy in his car outside Calvary Baptist Church during Sunday services earlier this month.
Huiell Crawford Denton Jr., 65, of Holiday lured the 11-year-old boy into his car June 14 by telling the child he had a gift for him, an arrest report said. The boy was at the church to attend services.
Once in the car, Denton, who was in the driver's seat, had the boy reach across his lap to get the present, which was on the floor under the steering wheel, deputies said.
The boy told deputies Denton hugged him around the waist and squeezed the boy's buttocks. Denton also kissed the boy's forehead, cheek and ear, deputies said.
Denton taught Sunday School to adults at Calvary Baptist, officials said. He was charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 years old and luring or enticing a child. He was being Wednesday without bail at the Land O'Lakes Detention Center.
Denton previously served one year in prison for a sex-related crime he committed in 1990 in South Carolina, officials said. Because the laws were different at the time, Denton was not required to register as a sex offender.
