Pinellas Sheriff's employee accused of child abuse

LARGO — A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office employee accused of child abuse was arrested Monday.

The agency's crimes against children detectives began investigating Sept. 12 when a 16-year-old boy told a relative that Willye Shaw, 41, had repeatedly struck him with a belt several times during the past two years, the Sheriff's Office said.

The beatings left the boy with a 6-inch scar on his right arm and other scars on his left knee.

During an interview with detectives, Shaw admitted to hitting the boy, the Sheriff's Office said.

Hired in June 2006, Shaw is a technical support specialist for the Sheriff's Office and is on administrative leave without pay pending an administrative investigation.

He faces a charge of child abuse. Shaw was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where he remained Monday afternoon in lieu of $5,000 bail.
