Deputies say man mailed drugs to jail inmate to help with her withdrawal, sleep
A 36-year-old man is accused of concealing Xanax in a greeting card he mailed to a Pinellas County Jail inmate, deputies said.
A mail clerk discovered the white powdery substance July 30. When interviewed by detectives, Charles Lawless of Seffner admitted to sending the drug to his fiancee, who is at the jail, because she is going through withdrawals and needs the medication to sleep, an arrest report states.
"The defendant further stated he was 'high' when he put the Xanax in the card," a deputy wrote, "and now realizes he should not have done it."
Lawless was jailed on charges of drug possession and introducing contraband into a detention facility.
