CLEARWATER — An 18-year-old man was shot Tuesday afternoon during an argument in the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., police said.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said. A search for the man who shot him was ongoing.

An initial investigation found that the man who was shot was a passenger in a car that pulled up to a house about 4:28 p.m., authorities said. Another man came out of the house and an argument erupted between the man and those in the car.

The man pulled out a gun and fired into the car, hitting the passenger before fleeing the area, police said.

Friends took the shooting victim to Morton Plant Hospital. He was later taken to a local trauma center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police did not release either the victim's name or that of the man they say shot him late Tuesday. The victim and the shooter know each other, authorities said.

Following the shooting, police secured the area and searched a house where they thought the shooter might be hiding, but did not find him, authorities said.
