ST. PETERSBURG — A man who was caring for an infant was arrested Monday, accused of physically abusing the boy.
The 5-month-old baby, who was not identified, suffered "severe head injuries and other serious internal injuries consistent with physical abuse" on Aug. 23, St. Petersburg police said. He underwent life-saving surgery at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
Michael Hylton, 32, of St. Petersburg, denied injuring the boy and told investigators he didn't know what caused the injuries. He was nevertheless taken into custody on a charge of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
Police refused to describe the relationship between Hylton and the boy. Hylton was held without bail Monday in the Pinellas County jail.
