Police arrest suspect in armed kidnapping

Police arrested a man they say kidnapped a person at gunpoint after a Sept. 4 car crash at 110th Avenue N and Fourth Street.

Alonzo Brown, 18, of Tampa faces charges of armed carjacking, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury and driving on a suspended license involving serious injury.

Investigators said he was driving fast southbound when he struck a car in the intersection. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital and later released, police said.

Brown ran and tried to hop a fence but was unsuccessful, officers said. When another driver saw Brown bleeding, the driver asked if he needed help, according to police. Brown hopped into the car and pulled a gun, authorities said, demanding to be driven away.

Brown was arrested Friday. No further information was immediately available.
