St. Petersburg police say man was killed by relative Wednesday afternoon

ST. PETERSBURG — A 70-year-old man was stabbed to death by his nephew on Wednesday at the Reserve at Lake Pointe Apartments, police said.

Officers responded to 6188 Lynn Lake Dr, Apt. A, an apartment the two men shared at the complex off 54th Avenue S, shortly before 3:30 p.m. There they said Willie Wintons, 55, stabbed his uncle Fred Wintons, who was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and pronounced dead.

Willie Wintons was taken into custody and faces a charge of second-degree murder, according to St. Petersburg police.

Police released few other details.

"At this point, we're waiting on more evidence," police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said about 6 p.m. She said police were questioning the prime suspect.

A property manager declined to comment.
