BROOKSVILLE — Police arrested a 13-year-old Brooksville boy Wednesday on charges of attempted homicide and armed robbery after they say he shot an acquaintance last week.

Police say the suspect had had disputes in recent weeks with the 19-year-old victim. The Tampa Bay Times is not naming the suspect because of his age.

According to Brooksville Police, the suspect approached the 19-year-old about 1:30 p.m. June 30 outside Howell Oak Apartments at 1022 Howell Ave. He drew a semiautomatic pistol and demanded the victim's wallet, police said.

The suspect then shot the 19-year-old in the lower abdomen and ran from the scene.

The victim was able to walk to the nearby Brooksville Food Mart and call his mother, who then called 911.

The 13-year-old was being held Thursday without bail in juvenile detention.
