TAMPA — Three people were injured early Monday when gunfire erupted inside a crowded West Tampa nightclub.
More than 100 people were inside Club Viva at 4235 N Armenia Ave. when someone started shooting about 2 a.m.
When Tampa police arrived, they found the three: Darren Johnson, 48, Deondre West, 22, and Deandreo Hudson, 17. All had suffered gunshot wounds and were hospitalized. All were expected to survive, police said.
It remained unclear exactly what sparked the shooting. Tampa police said they were having trouble finding witnesses who saw the shooting.
Guards pat down guest before they can enter the club, WTSP 10News reported. Police were trying to determine how someone managed to bring a weapon inside.
Club Viva's website boasts a large dance floor, a booming sounds system and lights that "are sure to hypnotize." The club opened in 2014 at the location of what was previously Club Kush. The owners could not be reached Monday morning.
