TAMPA — Police are searching for the boyfriend of a woman found lying in the middle of a west Tampa road with fatal head injuries earlier this week.
Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Tampa police responded to a call about the woman, 30-year-old Latoya D. Smith, outside 2110 W Flora St. in Tampa. She was later taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police determined her fatal head injuries were the result of an intentional act, and homicide detectives are examining a number of scenes in connection with their investigation.
No arrests have been made, but Tampa police detectives are trying to locate Smith's new boyfriend, Jovan Quinton Huggins, 23, for an interview. He was the last known person to see her alive and has been named a person of interest in the case.
A black Dodge Charger registered to Smith, a mother of three children, was involved in a hit and run crash near Cass Street and Willow Avenue shortly after she was found. A male wearing a red shirt and black shorts was seen running from the Charger.
Witnesses said Smith was with Huggins before she was found in the street. When they were together, Huggins was wearing a red shirt and black shorts.
