BRANDON — A 71-year-old bicyclist riding with a companion was killed when he crossed from a grassy median into the path of an oncoming pickup truck Thursday evening on State Road 60 east of Valrico, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Johnny F. Renshaw of Dover was killed in the 7:05 p.m. collision near Marge Owens Road, east of the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds.

Renshaw was crossing S.R. 60 north to south with Frank P. Lucas, 68, of Brandon, when the two stopped in the median of the four-lane road before proceeding, the Highway Patrol said.
