BRANDON — A Massachusetts man and his Brandon passenger were killed early Tuesday after a pickup truck and SUV collided at the intersection of Brandon Parkway and Town Center Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Just before 5 a.m., a 2016 Chevy Silverado driven by Michael Iacob, 26, of Tampa, and a 2018 Nissan SUV entered the intersection "simultaneously" and crashed, troopers said.

The SUV erupted into flames, and its driver, who was identified as Harold Climaco, 36, of Chelsea, Massachusetts, later died at Brandon Regional Hospital. Jocelyn Murillo Hernandez, 37, a passenger in the SUV, died at the scene. Iacob had minor injuries.

Iacob was traveling north on Town Center Boulevard and the SUV was driving east on Brandon Parkway, troopers said.

Troopers are still investigating who ran a red traffic signal when entering the intersection.
