A Dunedin man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he was impaired while driving the wrong way on U.S. 19 in Clearwater.

According to Clearwater Police, 60-year-old Anthony Tucker was seen by an officer driving north in the southbound lanes, south of Gulf to Bay Boulevard, around 3:30 a.m. shortly after Largo Police officers issued a bulletin warning of a wrong-way driver.

Officers attempted to alert and stop other motorists while trying to pull Tucker over, police said.

Tucker, however, refused to pull over. He continued driving even after officers deployed stop sticks, police said.

Tucker came to a stop near Countryside Boulevard when he couldn't pass a large flatbed tow truck, police said. He was taken into custody on a charge of DUI and is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
