CLEARWATER — A vehicle missed a curve, ended up driving onto a sidewalk and ran down two people on Monday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

One of the pedestrians, Robert Parker, 67, was fatally injured and died at the scene.

The incident took place at about 5 p.m. on Feather Sound Drive, just east of Vizcaya Drive.

Gregory Gleason, 24, was driving westbound on Feather Sound Drive in a 2017 Jeep Patriot when the Highway Patrol said he missed a curve in the road. He drove onto the sidewalk and struck a Clearwater couple, Robert and Laurie Parker, troopers said.

The Jeep kept going until it hit a ditch and then struck a concrete retaining wall, trooper said.

Laurie Parker, 55, was treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol does not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Charges are pending in this case, however. No other details were released.
